I again want to encourage people to sign up for Vermont Alert, commonly known as VT-ALERT.
The recent tragedy in Texas should make us all think about being warned of pending danger.
It is easy to sign up, simply go to https://vem.vermont.gov/vtalert.
VT-ALERT is used by the state and town to notify the public of emergency situations. Those include, but are not limited to, evacuation information; hazmat incidents; shelter-in-place alerts; severe weather advisories; boil water advisories, and roadway interruptions.
You can tailor the alerts to specific locations, types of alerts and on which devices you will be notified.
I restrict my alerts to Orange County but you might want to add, Windsor, Washington or some other county depending on where you work or you have family.
You can set quiet hours for most alerts that are not urgent. When you set up your alerts click on the ones you want and be sure to set "Quiet Hours" for things like weather watches and road closures. If you don't, you will likely get periodic phone calls in the middle of the night for non-emergency notifications, for which you have signed up.
